The Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group is extremely pleased to announce that the 2009 Cushing Medal was awarded to Edward H. Oldfield, M.D., of the University of Virginia Health System, in Charlottesville, Virginia. The American Association of Neurological Surgeons bestowed their highest honor on Dr. Oldfield in recognition of his many contributions to neurosurgery, especially in the field of pituitary tumors. In addition to his academic positions, Dr. Oldfield was member of the JNSPG Editorial Board from 1994 to 2002 and currently serves as a member of the Advisory Board.

The Cushing Medal was established in 1976 to honor one of the fathers of neurosurgery, Harvey Cushing, and is presented annually to an outstanding member of the neurosurgical community. Dr. Oldfield received the honor on May 4, 2009, at AANS Annual Meeting which convened in San Diego, California.
